Mwinilunga, December 6, 2019, ZANIS -----   Senior Chief Sailunga of the Lunda speaking people in Mwinilunga district has bemoaned lack of clean and safe drinking water in his Chiefdom.

The Traditional Leader said following the drying up of  Mbema plains due to dry spell this year, most boreholes and shallow wells have died up forcing his subjects  especially women  and children to walk long distances to fetch for the commodity.

He said this in Mwinilunga when newly appointed District Commissioner, Arnot Mapulanga, called on him at his palace on Wednesday December 4, 2019.

Senior Chief Sailunga has since appealed to government through the department of Water Development to quickly address the situation to avoid the outbreak of water borne diseases.

District Commissioner Mr Mapulanga said it was unfortunate that the sources of water in the Chiefdom have dried up due to the low water table and assured the Traditional leader that a team from relevant line Ministries will be sent to the area to access the situation.

And in a separate courtesy call Chief Ntambu appealed to government to work on the Sailunga-Ntambu road and the Kaisumpa Bridge which is on the verge of collapsing.

Chief Ntambu said with the onset of the rainy season, the area will be cut off if the bridge and the road are not worked on.

Meanwhile, Chief Ntambu has expressed concern over the delays in the utilization of the 2018 Constituency Development fund by the Town Council saying the inertia will negatively affect the implementation of developmental projects in the district.
