Solwezi, September 30, 2019, ZANIS---Solwezi Mayor Nicholas Mukumbi is saddened with the land wrangles going on between the council and traditional leaders.

The dispute is between the council and traditional leadership over Humphrey Mulemba, Kazhiba and Muzabula settleement.

Mr Mukumbi said preventing the council from moving in the three areas and upgrading them is denying settlers of the much needed development.

Mr Mukumbi said the council remains resolute towards upgrading the three settlements to site and service status but this is being hampered by the traditional leaders’ refusal.

The civic leader has since appealed to chief Kapijimpanga to engage traditional leaders in Humphrey Mulemba, Kazhiba and Muzabula and sensitize them on the need to upgrade the areas.

He said the local authority remains committed towards ensuring that Solwezi district develops without leaving anyone behind.

Mr Mukumbi was speaking during the third ordinary council meeting held in Solwezi today.

Meanwhile, Mr Mukumbi has commended government for releasing funds towards the completion of the bridge at Solwezi river on the dual carriageway.

He said the bridge will help reduce on road carnages that happen almost weekly owing to the narrowness of the existing bridge.

Mr Mukumbi expressed hope that the contractor will expedite the works and complete the project before the onset of the rains.
