Shibuyunji, June 14, 2019, ZANIS ---- Shibuyunji District in in Lusaka province has received another 17,950 bags of Mealie meal relief food from Disaster management and mitigation unit (DMMU).

ZANIS reports that Acting District commissioner Vanessa Chalwe,   who disclosed the development today in an interview today, has thanked government to quickly responding to the plight of vulnerable people from Shibuyunji District.

Mrs Chalwe says the gesture as it will go a long way in serving the people in the rural district.

The mealie meal received consist of 12.5kilogrammes, which she said will be distributed across the district.

Mrs Chalwe who is also the District Administrative officer says the mealie meal will also lessen the chances of starvation as it will cushion the hunger crisis in the district.

“Farmers have suffered a great loss this year as the crop yields recorded this year is very low leaving most of them and other community members to find other means of survival, “she said.

She disclosed that two lives have been lost in the area, due to hunger.

The Acting District commissioner has since urged the people in the district to remain calm and they receive the mealie meal and use it for its intended purpose.
