Mpulungu, December 6, 2019, ZANIS---The ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has scooped the two local government seats in Mpulungu Constituency of Mpulungu district in Northern Province.

The PF scooped both the Mumila and Katwe wards, respectively, in the by-elections, held yesterday.

In Mumila Ward, PF candidate Moses Sikazwe polled 381 votes beating his closest opponent Benson Kalumbi of the United Party for National Development (UPND) who polled 128 votes.

This was from the total of 519 votes that were cast while 2 voted were invalid.

Retaining Officer George Chibuye declared Moses Sikazwe of the Patriotic Front as newly elected Mumila Ward Councillor.

And the PF candidate, John Chitimbwa, has also scooped the Katwe Ward election in Mpulungu Constituency after beating his rival from the opposition UPND by a huge margin.

Mr Chitimbwa polled 623 votes while Peter Mbao of the UPND polled 220 votes.

A total number of 852 votes were cast and nine votes were invalid.

The Mumila Ward by- election was necessitated by the death of the ward councillor Derrick Kapambwe while the Katwe ward by- election resulted from the resignation of the area councillor Patrick Mukolele from the UPND to join the PF.
