Chitambo, December 6,  2019, ZANIS --- The  Patriotic Front (PF) has retained the Chipundu Ward Councillor seat after beating the United Party for National Development (UPND) in yesterday’s Local Government by- election that was necessitated by the death of the incumbent Councillor, Diwell Mwape.

PF candidate Owen Kapolo  polled 1,042 votes while his rival Kalonde Adon of the UPND polled 186 votes.

A total of 1, 260 votes were cast out of which 32 were rejected.

Chipundu by-election Returning Officer, Elias Sikacheya, announced the results from the four polling stations namely; Chipundu, Kalungu, Kaoma and Chititima at Chipundu Primary School being the totalling centre.

Mr Sikacheya declared Mr Kapolo the duly elected Chipundu ward Councillor at around 21:41hrs.

And Chitambo Area Member of Parliament, Chanda Mutale, described the election as fair adding that the victory emphasises a point that the PF is still strong in Chipundu Ward.

“This Victory means that the people still have confidence in the party and what we have done and what we have promised to do for them. We shall ensure that the much needed development is brought to this Ward,” he said.

He implored the new Councillor to work hard especially that he has very little time to perform according to people’s expectations.

“I implore Mr Kapolo to energise himself and show the community that he has the capacity to work for them and always pray to God for more wisdom,” he said.

And incoming Councillor, Owen Kapolo, thanked the people of Chipundu for voting for him and promised to work closely with them and bring development to the ward.
