Government says sports games and physical exercise are important in the development of school going children if the country is to overcome obesity, diabetes and other human related diseases.

Acting Luwingu district administrative officer Innocent Imboela says lack of physical exercises is a recipe to premature death in many children and adults at large.

Imboela was speaking over the weekend during the official opening of Northern Province Coca-Cola sponsored under 15, tournament held at Luwingu secondary school under the theme: “building a stable and sustainable future through education and sport.”

Recent medical research has proved that highly active children are less likely to suffer from diseases such as diabetes and hypertension  because a healthy body is a health mind and it is next to Godliness, he said.

“These diseases affect both adults and children. For this reason, Let us avoid such diseases by engaging in regular physical exercises. You must take sports seriously and be disciplined. Discipline is vital to every living being. For man, it is even more important like the spinal cord. Without discipline, Mankind will be ruined,” he added.

And Mr Imboela has appealed to education administrators that sport must be all inclusive because it is a unifying factor and promotes friendships across individuals from different walks of life.

Mr Imboela said government attached a lot of importance to sports development hence opening sport centres in all the districts countrywide.
