Kabwe, August 23, 2019, ZANIS---The Zambia Correctional Services Commissioner General, Chisela Chileshe has called on all Officers In-Charge of correctional facilities to come up with innovative strategies that will help reform inmates.

Dr Chileshe said there is need for inmates to be transformed into citizens that will add value to society once released.

The Commissioner General said this during a two weeks training for Officers In-Charge from all the correctional service stations in the country at the Correctional service staff training school in Kabwe.

He said the shift from a punitive setup to a correctional service requires a lot of re-arranging to meet with the demands of being a correctional service.

Dr Chileshe said officers need to follow the Standing Order and the Act which gives guidelines on how correctional facilities are managed.

He further asked Officers In-Charge to understand the behaviour of inmates brought to their stations and the offences they did in order to come up with better reformation activities.

And Correctional Service Staff Training School Commander, Tony Khunga said a number of gaps have been noticed in the Officers In-charge in various stations.

He said the training had come at the right time as it will address some of the shortcomings that had been noticed in the performance of the officers.
