Nine (9) people have been arrested for illegal possession of 14 homemade fire arms during a joint operation by the Zambia Police Service (ZP) and Zambia Wild Life Authority (ZAWA) in Muchinga Province.

The joint team operation conducted the search in three villages between Isoka and Nakonde districts.

Muchinga Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka has confirmed the arrest to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) today in Chinsali.


Mr Daka said 14 homemade guns commonly known as muzzle loaders, 26 live ammunitions, 31 empty cartridges and 500 grams gun powder were recovered during the operation.

Mr Daka named the villages in Nakonde where raids were conducted as Mulizye, Chimyantu and Ntembo adding that those arrested are between the age of 30 and 45 years.

The suspects arrested for illegal possession of 14 firearms are Mukuka Sinkonde and Festone Silungwe both aged 40 of Ntembo village.

 Others are three brothers Johnwell Simutengu, 45, Leckson Simutengu, 30 and Kenneth Simutengu 35, all of Chimyantu village.

From Mulizye village those arrested include Nathan Sinkonde, 38, Mutumwa Sichimata, 30, David Sinkamba, 38, and Kenneth Clint Sinkamba aged 58 years old.


The Police Commissioner said all the suspects who are currently detained at Nakonde will appear in court soon.
