Lusaka, October 16, 2019, ZANIS---Minister of Transport and Communications Mutotwe Kafwaya has warned telecommunication service providers to improve on the quality of their services.

Mr Kafwaya has since directed the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) to impose necessary sanctions on telecommunication service providers that are failing to provide quality service.

He explained that his Ministry is concerned with the increasing number of complaints on the quality of services offered by the various telecommunication service providers in the country.

ZANIS reports that Mr Kafwaya was speaking in Lusaka last evening when he officiated at the launch of velocity mobile application by Zambia Telecommunications Company (ZAMTEL).

He emphasized that customers should get the value from their money which can only be achieved when mobile service providers improve on service delivery.

“On a very worrying note, My Ministry is concerned by the increasing number of complaints on the quality of services offered by the various telecommunication service providers.

“ I wish to call on all service providers including ZAMTEL to give attention to the quality of service in order for customers to get value from their hard earned income spent on these services. In this vain, ZICTA should ensure that erring services providers are met with necessary sanctions,” he stressed.

The Transport and Communications Minister further reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving communication in rural areas, saying of the 690 communication towers installed 550 are operational.

And ZAMTEL Chief Executive Officer Sydney Mupeta said the newly launched velocity mobile application will provide customers with unlimited quality internet speed.

Mr Mupeta explained that his company has engaged the Road Development Agency (RDA) to reduce the interruptions of its cables when working on roads infrastructure.

He was quick to mention that ZAMTEL has embarked on the modernization agenda which will result in more innovations being introduced in order to improve the quality of services being offered by the native mobile service provider.
