Milenge, August 23, 2019, ZANIS---Milenge Town Council in Luapula Province has allocated K828, 000 towards the construction of two semi-detached housing units to improve staff retention in the district.

Milenge Town Council Secretary, Duncan Chipulu says the construction of the housing units is meant to cushion the challenges of accommodation being faced in the district.

Mr Chipulu said the project is being financed using 20 percent from the Equalization fund allocated for various projects in the district.

He further said the first flat is 97 percent complete and works will be concluded in two weeks’ time while the other is at window level.

ZANIS reports that Mr Chipulu disclosed this during a familiarization meeting for the new Provincial Local Government Officer, Ndoba Chibuye which was held at the Council Chamber.

He said the construction of houses is an on-going project and more will be worked on in the coming financial years.

Mr Chipulu added that the local authority has also allocated K 140,000 towards the rehabilitation of six old council houses.

He noted that some of the council houses are dilapidated, adding that the council wants to ensure workers are living in a conducive environment.

Mr Chipulu observed that civil servants are demotivated by the lack of decent accommodation in Milenge as some of them to stay in guest houses.
