Milenge, August, 23, 2019,  ZANIS--- Milenge Town Council Secretary, Duncan Chipulu says the local authority has acquired 1,000 hectares of land from Chief Kasoma-Lwela to support the incoming fish farming investment project by Pendulum Transport and Fisheries in the district.

Mr Chipulu said the land is adjacent to the 2,000 hectares of land the investor has bought in Nsunga ward stating that the council is also positioning itself for the project.

He stated that the land will be used for commercial and residential purposes such as small holdings and housing units.

Mr Chipulu added that the fish project is projected to provide employment to over 1,000 people and the   council wants to ensure it provides descent accommodation to them.

ZANIS reports that Mr Chipulu said this during a familiarization meeting for the new Provincial Local Government Officer which was held in the Council Chamber.

He further said the land will also be used for the construction of a school, mini hospital and other public facilities.

And Luapula Provincial Local Government Officer, Ndoba Chibuye called on devolved departments to cooperate with the council to foster development.

Mr Chibuye noted that decentralization has made councils the focus of development hence the need for officers to work together if Zambia is to achieve the goal of being a prosperous middle income country by 2030.
