Serenje, October 16, 2019, ZANIS ---- SASA Comparative Chairperson Chilekwa Mushata of Luombwa area in Serenje District of Central Province advised mine companies operating in the area to put their resources together and assist government to construct a new bridge at Luombwa River.

ZANIS reports that Mr Mushata lamented in an interview yesterday that it is unfortunate that despite the mining firms using the bridge, which is in a dilapidated state, they have given a blind eye to assist government in repairing the structure.

“Proprietors of the manganese mines in the area are making a lot of money which in turn can go towards construction of deliberated bridge at Luombwa River to avoid loss of people, “he said.

Luombwa Bridge , constructed during the  United National Independence Party (UNIP) government has so far been weakened by heavy moving machines which always cross the bridge carrying manganese on daily bases including of farmers who are in Nasanga farming block.

Mr Mushata further urged the investors in the area to team up and plough back to the community to help and supplement government’s efforts.

He has since called on the related Ministries in the government to take quick physical check up on the damage of the bridge before the onset of rain season and find a lasting solution.

Mr Mushata has also been worried on how the distribution of farming inputs   cross the bridge if it gets damaged.

The Luombwa Bridge is across Luombwa river situated west side of Serenje district, which is about 62 kilometres away from Serenje and bordering with Nasanaga farming block.
