Kasama, May 16, 2019, ZANIS---The Swedish Government says it will continue to support governance programmes among women and youth in implementing a strategy for development cooperation with Zambia.

Deputy Head of Swedish Mission in Zambia, Karin Sverken said the embassy is working with civil society organizations in promoting gender equality and youth participation in various aspects of governance.

Ms Sverken said this when she paid a courtesy call on Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Charles Sipanje, at his office.

She revealed that the mission has partnered with a number of organisations in implementing Swedish funded programmes in the Northern Province.

Ms Sverken named the organization as Action Aid, Caritas Zambia, Transparency International Zambia, Non- Governmental Organisation Coordinating Council and British Broadcasting Corporation - BBC Media Action

And Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Charles Sipanje, hailed the Swedish Government for supporting governance and poverty alleviation programmes in Zambia.

He said the provincial administration is pleased that the Swedish mission has also extended its activities to the province.

The Permanent Secretary noted that the support from Sweden is in line with government goals highlighted in the Seventh National Development Plan.

Earlier, Action Aid Zambia Country Director, Nalucha Ziba revealed that her organisation with the support of the Swedish Embassy is working with local groups in sensitizing women and youths on matters of governance.
