Govt commended for its support to the tourism sector

The Hotels and Catering Association of Zambia (HCAZ) in Eastern province have commended government for its continued support to the tourism industry through various infrastructure developmental programmes.
HCAZ Eastern region Chairperson Elvis Mhone revealed that Eastern province has seen an increase in the number of tourists visiting due to the good road network and rehabilitation of airports.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Chipata today, Mr. Mhone noted that the Eastern region tourism potential has not been tapped because it is difficult to access many of the facilities.
Mr Mhone explained that this is because many roads, airports and strips were in a bad state thereby discouraging tourists and even investors to come to the province.
He said but with coming up of several infrastructure projects by government the picture is changing as many tourists are now visiting the province.
He cited the rehabilitation works on the Great East road, construction of the Chipata-Mfuwe and the rehabilitation of Chipata and Mfuwe airports as some the projects that have helped in boosting the tourism sector in the region.
Mr Mhone who is also the proprietor of Eastern Comfort lodge said to this effect the tourism industry has benefited a lot through improved business.
He has since advised the tourism sector to improve on their service and delivery and increase the bed spaces to meet the demand.
