Kawambwa, October 22, 2019 ZANIS  -----  Government has commended Heifer International Zambia and Access Water  four Zambia for contributing towards poverty reduction in rural communities of Kawambwa and Mwansabombwe Districts in Luapula Province.

Kawambwa District Commissioner, Ivo Mpasa says government is happy to be part of successful implementation of programmes by Heifer International Zambia and Access Water four Zambia that promote sustainable development in the two districts.

ZANIS reports that Mr Mpasa was speaking on the occasion of launching of two Solar Powered Water Systems and the “Passing On the Gift” at Folotiya and Musungu Communities in Kawambwa over the weekend.

Heifer International in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme, has supported 22 families in Musungu community with livestock under the Women Empowerment through Animal Traction Project.

The District Commissioner also disclosed that the solar water systems have been installed by Access Water four Zambia under the Pilot WASH Integrated Livelihood Development Project to provide water for humans, livestock and increased agricultural production.

Speaking at the same event, Heifer International Zambia Director of Programmes, Nachimuka Cheepa congratulated the 11 families for putting into practice the essential values of, “passing on the gift” at 100 per cent loan repayment.

And Access Water four Zambia Country Director, Carmen Brubacher urged the communities to operate the water facilities as an enterprise for sustainable water supply and maintenance.
