Kasama, June17, 2019, ZANIS---A Civic leader of Kasama District has encouraged farmers to fully utilise agriculture as it is a wheel changer.

Kapongolo Ward Councilor Peter Mubanga says there is need for farmers to take farming seriously as it can help them improve not only their livelihoods but their communities and the nation, at large.

Speaking to ZANIS in an interview, Kapongolo Ward Councilor Peter Mubanga said farmers especially in his ward should consider taking agriculture seriously by joining cooperatives to enable them acquire best practices in farming.

Mr Mubanga explained that for this reason, government is committed to improving the agriculture sector as seen by efforts to work with other stakeholders to empower farmers with various agriculture skills.

Some of the skills that farmers are being equipped with by cooperatives are sustainable organic agriculture practices, among others to help enhance agricultural productivity.

He has since appealed to farmers to diversify into both livestock and crop farming.

Meanwhile, the councilor has also commended government for rehabilitating the road leading to Musa Farming Institute.

He said the rehabilitation of the road has helped to easy the movements of farm people and farm produce.
