Pemba, July 12,2019,ZANIS---    Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) Southern Province programme manager Yvonne Nakachinda has disclosed that her organisation is executing a robust project aimed at alleviating the suffering of rural farmers in selected districts of the province.

Mrs Nakachinda said the Smallholder Farmer Support Project that was initially implemented in Sierra Leone and Ethiopia was scaled up in Zambia and in Malawi focusing on the agricultural sector value chains to improve the welfare of small scale farmers.

The other sectors the Smallholder Farmer Support Project has focused in includes Education, health, and human rights.

She was speaking when she addressed a multi-sectoral stakeholders meeting that included various institutions and government departments at Kozo lodge in Choma.

Mrs Nakachinda told the participants that the project will be implemented in Pemba, Namwala, Monze, Gwembe and Mazabuka districts of Southern Province.

She named the value chain activities under the Disaster Risk Reduction as smart agriculture through the conservation agriculture and goat rearing livelihood interventions.

Mrs Nakachinda said the credit facilities offered under the project include cash and input loans to farmers.

Among the collaborating agricultural stakeholders that attended the meeting at Kozo lodge include World Vision Zambia, Zambia National Farmers Union, and the Conservation Farming Unit.

Others are ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Community Development, Forest department and Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
