Mpongwe, May 23, 2019, ZANIS------The Mpongwe District Delimitation committee has proposed that Mpongwe be divided into two constituencies.

During a stakeholders meeting this morning, the committee proposed for the creation of Mpongwe west and east constituencies from the already existing Mpongwe central constituency.

The committee has further proposed for an additional  seven wards to the already existing 13 wards,  which would translate to 10 wards in each constituency.

Meanwhile, Mpongwe District Commissioner Keith Maila said the division of Mpongwe into two constituencies would accelerate development in the area.

He added that Mpongwe is a vast district and that a single constituency development fund (CDF) was not sufficient enough to settle the various social and economic challenges being faced in the area.

“The current CDF is a drop in the ocean, the district is just too vast and this delimitation is necessary for the districts development.” He said.

Mr Maila further noted that the division of Mpongwe district into two constituencies would accelerate the numerous capital projects in the area.
