Lusaka, April 26, 2019, ZANIS---New Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia Monsignor Gianfranco Gallone has arrived in the country to take up his appointment.

Monsignor Gallone arrived in the country at about 12:30 hours at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka aboard South African Airways.

ZANIS reports that he was received by High ranking officials from the Catholic Church led by Arch bishop of Lusaka Archdiocese, Alick Banda, his immediate predecessor Telesphore Mpundu, priests and catholic faithfuls.

The new Apostolic Nuncio will serve both Zambia and Malawi, which does not have an apostolic nunciature representative

Monsignor Gianfranco Gallone was appointed by Pope Francis On February 2, 2019, as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia to take over from Archbishop Julio Murat who was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroun.

His appointment to Zambia as Apostolic Nuncio also saw him elevated to Archbishop of Mottola.

Monsignor Gianfranco Gallone was born on April 20, 1963 in Ceglie Messapica Italy and was ordained Priest on September 3, 1988 for the Diocese of Oria in Italy.

He entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See on June 19, 2000 and was subsequently posted to Mozambique, Israel, Slovakia, India and Sweden.

Until his new appointment to Zambia, Monsignor Gallone was serving as an official at the Vatican’s Secretariat of State.

Monsignor Gallone holds a doctoral degree in Canon Law and speaks Spanish, English, Portuguese and Slovak, in addition to his native Italian.
