Mufulira, August 23, 2019, ZANIS---The Mufulira Aquaculture Association has called on Zambians to take interest in fish farming as it has potential to contribute to the country's economy.

Mufulira Aquaculture Association Chairperson, Boniface Njobvu said it is sad that many Zambians do not have interest in fish farming, and those who do only have it at small scale level.

Mr Njobvu said it is time for Zambians to move away from the view that farming is only maize, saying there is huge potential in other types of farming such as Aquaculture.

He said it was gratifying that many small scale fish farmers were emerging in Zambia, adding that there was need for stakeholders to support the farmers in various ways, in order to grow the sector.

"We need stakeholders to come on board and build the capacity of small scale fish farmers, so that we grow the industry," he said.

Mr Njobvu said with the right incentives in place, fish farming has the capacity to contribute to the national economy.
